How it works

Provide your TOC and get a quote

Paste your table of contents to see the estimated production price. You can provide sources and instructions when we arrange production of your work.

We generate your draft with AI

Once you approve the quote, ToC Works uses AI to generate your complete draft, following your structure and instructions, with citations for factual claims.

Receive your complete draft

Download your draft as Word or EPUB, or save a PDF from the print view. Keep it private for your own use, or publish it on ToC Works for others to read.

Questions before you begin

Why make a work here?

ToC Works is designed for the point where an AI conversation needs to become a durable, organized publication.

Why use ToC Works instead of staying in ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is excellent for exploring an idea, testing arguments, and discovering what you think. ToC Works begins when that exploration needs to become a coherent work. It keeps the table of contents, production plan, generated sections, edits, sources, artwork, exports, and published editions together in one controlled workflow. You can use ChatGPT to develop the idea, then bring the resulting outline here.
Is this just ChatGPT with a different interface?
No. A normal chat is an open-ended conversation. ToC Works treats your table of contents as a production specification: it parses the structure, estimates the work before production, prepares section-level instructions, generates a complete draft, and gives you a private studio for review, editing, export, and optional publication.
Does ToC Works use a better AI model?
The model matters, but no model guarantees a good book by itself. ToC Works selects a production model and places it inside a focused long-form process. The quality advantage comes from your approved structure, consistent instructions, bounded section tasks, evidence requirements, and review gates—not from asking you to find the right model or repeatedly rebuild context in separate chats.
Will the writing be better than what I can generate myself?
It should be more consistent and easier to evaluate as a complete work because every section is generated against the same structure and production standard. It can still be uneven, incomplete, or mistaken. You remain the authorial decision-maker: review the draft, revise it, check important claims, and decide whether it is ready to leave your private studio.
Is it faster?
It reduces the coordination work that grows around a long project: recreating context, tracking which section is current, moving prose between chats, assembling files, and keeping revisions straight. That can make production substantially more efficient, but ToC Works does not promise instant generation. During the founding pilot, production timing is confirmed separately.
What do I need before I begin?
Bring a table of contents that expresses the work you want to make. A clear central argument, chapter sequence, sources, and special instructions improve the result. You do not have to think linearly: explore the idea in ChatGPT first, then ask it to organize the work into a book outline and revise that outline before loading it here.
How does ToC Works keep a large project organized?
The table of contents remains the spine of the work. Sections stay attached to their place in the outline; generated candidates, manual edits, revision notes, sources, and artwork remain associated with the work; and publication creates a stable edition rather than silently changing what readers already saw.
Can I edit the draft without generating it again?
Yes. You can revise individual sections manually in the private studio and save those changes without another generation pass. If you want additional AI revisions, those are scoped and priced separately rather than applied without your approval.
Do I have to publish on ToC Works?
No. Keep the work private, share it by an unlisted link, or publish it publicly when you choose. Public text remains stable until you deliberately release a new edition, and you can choose whether readers see the edition number.
Can I take my work elsewhere?
Yes. Export the current work as Word, EPUB, or Markdown, or use the print view to save a PDF. Publication is optional. ToC Works is meant to produce a portable work, not trap it inside the platform.
What about sources and factual accuracy?
Evidence-based claims are generated with citations, and sources remain available for review. AI-generated text can still cite weakly, misunderstand a source, or state something incorrectly. ToC Works improves traceability; it does not replace fact-checking, expert review, or your judgment.
When is ordinary ChatGPT enough?
Stay in ChatGPT when you are brainstorming, asking one-off questions, drafting a short piece, or still changing the premise. ToC Works becomes useful when the outline has stabilized and you want a multi-part work produced, reviewed, revised, exported, and possibly published as one organized project.
